Prepare for Man made Global Cooling - by Mark | January 22, 2008, 10:37:42 PM
And so it begins again...wait a couple more years and we will be told Global Cooling is the real problem.   All of this is pure religious dogma.
Quote
The ice caps hold a special place in the cold hearts of the global warming advocates who are all too quick to insist that our ice caps are currently melting at an unprecedented rate. We suspect that they will not be particularly thrilled to learn that a paper has just appeared in Geophysical Research Letters entitled “A doubling in snow accumulation in the western Antarctic Peninsula since 1850.” The article is by scientists with the British Antarctic Survey and the Desert Research Institute in Reno, Nevada; the work was funded by the UK Natural Environment Research Council and the U.S. National Science Foundation. In case you think that the Desert Research Institute in Nevada would have little interest in Antarctica, recall from geography classes you’ve had that Antarctica receives little precipitation and is regarded by climatologists as a frozen desert.
Quote
Thomas et al. analyzed a medium depth ice core drilled at a high accumulation site (Gomez) on the south-western Antarctic Peninsula (73.59°S, 70.36°W, 1400 m) (see map , Figure 1). If you want the details, the core was drilled in January 2007 using an electromechanical, 104 mm diameter drill to a depth of 136 m. As seen in the figure below, the snow accumulation (measured in meters of water equivalent per year, mweq y-1), has as the title of the article suggests, been rising like a rocket. In their own words, the authors state “Annual accumulation has more than doubled in the last 150 years: the mean for 1855–1864 was 0.49 mweq y-1while for 1997–2006 it was 1.10 mweq y-1. At the beginning of the record annual accumulation is relatively stable until about 1930 when it begins to increase steadily. Following a slight reduction in accumulation in the late 1960s, the most rapid increase occurs in the latter part of the record with the mean accumulation rate from the mid-1970s onwards increasing to 0.95 mweq y-1. Note that for the post-1980 period even the lowest annual accumulation values are still greater than the highest accumulation values from the first half of the record (1855–1924).” This huge increase may be unique to the Gomez area, but other cores sites certainly show increases in accumulation as well.

Quote
Figure 1. Annual accumulation at Gomez (dashed blue) and running decadal mean accumulation at Gomez (solid blue), Dyer Plateau (red), James Ross Island (black) and ITASE01_05 (green) in meters of water equivalent per year (mweq y-1) between 1850 and 2006 (from Thomas et al., 2008)

Here my friends is the money shot.

Quote
So while we’ve heard recent reports about Antarctica losing ice, here we again find evidence to the contrary, and then some, at least in these locations. Not only is there no evidence of melting at the Gomez site, snow is accumulating there at an amazingly high rate. Clearly, this paper adds to the evidence that suggests that we simply, as of yet, do not have a firm grasp on the climate changes and their drivers that are effecting Antarctica, past, present, or, much less, future.

Sigh....pure absolute religious dogma.  All of it is rubbish.....Global Warming/Cooling, we have not a clue.

Global Warming wheels are coming off the axle. - by Mark | August 10, 2007, 09:15:37 PM
Th greatest hoax perpetuated on the world's population is coming apart at the seams.  Now NASA itself is caught with its pants down.

Quote
One of the most cited and used historical surface temperature databases is that of NASA/Goddard's GISS.  This is not some weird skeptics site.  It is considered one of the premier world temperature data bases, and it is maintained by anthropogenic global warming true believers.  It has consistently shown more warming than any other data base, and is thus a favorite source for folks like Al Gore.  These GISS readings in the US rely mainly on the US Historical Climate Network (USHCN) which is a network of about 1000 weather stations taking temperatures, a number of which have been in place for over 100 years.

...

Anyway, McIntyre suspected that one of these adjustments had a bug, and had had this bug for years.  Unfortunately, it was hard to prove.  Why?  Well, that highlights one of the great travesties of climate science.  Government scientists using taxpayer money to develop the GISS temperature data base at taxpayer expense refuse to publicly release their temperature adjustment algorithms or software (In much the same way Michael Mann refused to release the details for scrutiny of his methodology behind the hockey stick). Using the data, though, McIntyre made a compelling case that the GISS data base had systematic discontinuities that bore all the hallmarks of a software bug.

Today, the GISS admitted that McIntyre was correct, and has started to republish its data with the bug fixed.  And the numbers are changing a lot.  Before today, GISS would have said 1998 was the hottest year on record (Mann, remember, said with up to 99% certainty it was the hottest year in 1000 years) and that 2006 was the second hottest.  Well, no more.  Here are the new rankings for the 10 hottest years in the US, starting with #1:

    1934, 1998, 1921, 2006, 1931, 1999, 1953, 1990, 1938, 1939

Global Warming is a belief, not unlike religion....it is not science...never has been, and now the purveyors of this belief have been caught with bogus data.  They would never have been caught if some bright folks had not reverse engineered their failed math.  A scientist is supposed to welcome attempts at 3rd party validation, instead these NASA "scientists", prevented independent researches from verifying their data.  Shame on these scare mongers.

'Global Climate Change' jumps the shark yet again - by Mark | June 25, 2007, 03:13:06 PM
'Global Warming' (aka 'Global Cooling' aka "Global Climate Change') jumps ever higher over the shark nearly every day.  Now a scientist is claiming earth worms are increasing Global Warming gases at a very dangerous rate.
Quote

Jim Frederickson, the research director at the Composting Association has called for data on worms and composting to be re-examined after a German study found that worms produce greenhouse gases 290 times more potent than carbon dioxide.

Worms are being used commercially to compost organic material and is in preference to putting it into the landfill. The German government wants 45% of all waste to be composted by 2015.

"Everybody... thinks they can do no harm but they contribute to global warming. People are looking into alternative waste treatments but we have to make sure that we are not jumping from the frying pan into the fire," said Frederickson.

Excuse me while I puke.  This scientific dogma must be challenged....what complete utter rubbish.

Gaia is getting angrier...repent now - by Mark | June 20, 2007, 10:51:12 PM
Gaia is getting angrier.  Now we are being told to worry about Global Cooling as opposed to Global Warming.
Quote
Solar scientists predict that, by 2020, the sun will be starting into its weakest Schwabe solar cycle of the past two centuries, likely leading to unusually cool conditions on Earth. Beginning to plan for adaptation to such a cool period, one which may continue well beyond one 11-year cycle, as did the Little Ice Age, should be a priority for governments. It is global cooling, not warming, that is the major climate threat to the world, especially Canada. As a country at the northern limit to agriculture in the world, it would take very little cooling to destroy much of our food crops, while a warming would only require that we adopt farming techniques practiced to the south of us.

Meantime, we need to continue research into this, the most complex field of science ever tackled, and immediately halt wasted expenditures on the King Canute-like task of "stopping climate change."

Scientific Dogma demands we change our behavior or "Mother Earth" will unleash cycles of Global Warming and Global Cooling that will destroy us all.  For those having trouble following the scientific mumbo jumbo...there is this giant fireball called the "Sun" in our Solar system that is a gigantic fusion reactor spewing highly unstable and enormous amounts of radiation into our atmosphere every second of every day.  Scientists barely understand the reactions taking place within stars, and the idea that the Earth's climate is well understood and agreed upon by scientists is a farce perpetuated on an unsuspecting scientific illiterate populace.  Do not fall for any of this tripe.  Perhaps in about 20 years....we "may" have the scientific evidence in place to properly model and predict our climate, but we surely do not have the level of understanding today.

Finally...the idea that humans have the ability to stop Global Warming or Cooling or whatever the next scary climate change event that comes along, is a complete and total joke.  Humans are arrogant to think we can affect the Earth's climate processes on a global scale in a predictable manner that could alter the Earth's climate in a direction of our choosing.  When I was a child, I drew pictures of the Earth with giant rocket engines strapped to the Earth pointing towards the sky.  I thought it would be a reasonable method to "fly" the planet around the universe....then I attended university and learned basic physics and thermodynamics.  The energy humans would need to release to significantly alter anything about the Earth's climate is nearly beyond comprehension....and I include nuclear holocaust events in my analysis.   Humans could surely destroy all of humanity..but there is no way we could slay Gaia.  Gaia is simply to powerful and omnipotent to allow us to inflict our wishes upon her. -sic

"Climate change will be considered a joke in five years time" - by Mark | May 19, 2007, 08:39:47 AM
The wheels on the "Global Warming" bus are coming off the axle.   Climate change will be considered a joke in five years time, according to meteorologist Augie Auer.

Quote
Man's contribution to the greenhouse gases was so small we couldn't change the climate if we tried, he maintained.

"We're all going to survive this. It's all going to be a joke in five years," he said.

A combination of misinterpreted and misguided science, media hype, and political spin had created the current hysteria and it was time to put a stop to it.

"It is time to attack the myth of global warming," he said.

Again...Global Warming is a religion for earth worship of Gaia.  It is not science, never has been, and never will be.  Yet the witch hunting will continue for awhile longer until it is exposed for the fraud it always has been.

Quote
Yet the Greens continued to use phrases such as "The planet is groaning under the weight of CO2" and Government policies were about to hit industries such as farming, he warned.

"The Greens are really going to go after you because you put out 49 per cent of the countries emissions. Does anybody ask 49 per cent of what? Does anybody know how small that number is?

"It's become a witch-hunt; a Salem witch-hunt," he said.

Environmentalist: "Stop having so many damn children" - by Mark | May 07, 2007, 06:20:01 AM
The Global Warming Religion is getting crazier by the day.  In this article...Professor -sic Guillebaud thinks people are having too many children and that we should quickly stop creating humans, so we can save Gaia.

Quote
"The decision to have children should be seen as a very big one and one that should take the environment into account," he added.

Professor Guillebaud says that, as a general guideline, couples should produce no more than two offspring.

Ummm....one small question....what if I do not believe in Gaia, but believe in God, and further believe that children are not only good for God, my family, my spirit, and the planet?  Look around the world...in every country that birth rates have fallen below 2 children per couple, you will find a soulless empty culture barely hanging onto what is left of their civilization.  I think I will keep procreating, and welcome the coming heat wave by moving to the Artic or underground...if I must.  At least this way when I die, perhaps some children and grandchildren will attend my funeral.

I will no longer post about Environmentalism or Global Warming under the science category, it has become a pure religion.  As such this post and future ones like it will fall under religion.

This guy is even crazier.

Quote
Paul Watson, founder and president of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and famous for militant intervention to stop whalers, now warns mankind is “acting like a virus” and is harming Mother Earth.

Quote
Watson essentially called for humans to return to primitive lifestyles. “We need to stop flying, stop driving cars, and jetting around on marine recreational vehicles. The Mennonites survive without cars and so can the rest of us.”

Ahh....yes indeed they do....I believe living as such is part of their religious beliefs....perhaps you should join them and live how you preach...you arrogant condescending fool.  I will take my flying cars, science, and my religion....Thank you very much.

Science VS Faith - by Mark | April 04, 2007, 05:04:33 PM
Whenever someone asks how you can love science and God...I never understand the question.  Why can't I love both and still be a rational human being who appreciates science and faith equally as two different but compatible constructs.  Dr. Francis Collins, director of the Human Genome Project, lays out the reasoning quite well.  I have thought this way ever since I can remember contemplating God and my own existence as a young child attending Catholic school and mass nearly every Sunday.

Quote
So, some have asked, doesn't your brain explode? Can you both pursue an understanding of how life works using the tools of genetics and molecular biology, and worship a creator God? Aren't evolution and faith in God incompatible? Can a scientist believe in miracles like the resurrection?

Actually, I find no conflict here, and neither apparently do the 40 percent of working scientists who claim to be believers. Yes, evolution by descent from a common ancestor is clearly true. If there was any lingering doubt about the evidence from the fossil record, the study of DNA provides the strongest possible proof of our relatedness to all other living things.

But why couldn't this be God's plan for creation? True, this is incompatible with an ultra-literal interpretation of Genesis, but long before Darwin, there were many thoughtful interpreters like St. Augustine, who found it impossible to be exactly sure what the meaning of that amazing creation story was supposed to be. So attaching oneself to such literal interpretations in the face of compelling scientific evidence pointing to the ancient age of Earth and the relatedness of living things by evolution seems neither wise nor necessary for the believer.

Wyatt is welcomed into the Catholic Church - by Mark | November 07, 2005, 08:55:18 AM
Wyatt was baptised this past Saturday into the Catholic Church.  He made it through the Baptism and the entire mass without crying.  My brother, Jim, and sister, Lisa, were the godparents.  My Mom and Mother-in-law also came to town to witness the baptism.  During the mass the sky was thundering and lightning and pouring rain.  I sure hope that was simply God's way to let Wyatt know he will now be watching over him.  I will be putting up some pictures later this week, but I need to wait until my brother, Jim, sends me a CD.  I left my camera at home on Saturday.

In the meantime, I did post some pictures I took over the weekend at home.  Below is my Mom and Wyatt...click the picture to see the full album.

It was great to have my Moms, and siblings under one roof and to have all my sister's kids visiting as well.  Since we are spread out all over the country these opportunities to get together do not happen very often and each of them is tons of fun.

My brother and Mother had a very exciting plane trip home.  Their plane aborted 3 landings at Detroit and was diverted to Toledo, Ohio.  However, they eventually made it home to Baltimore, MD safe and sound.

God gives us the finger? - by Mark | June 30, 2003, 01:23:26 PM
A truely bizarre picture from the cosmos is located here:

God sends humans a message via  our Hubble Space Telecope.

What is most interesting to me about this picture is how truly beautiful the cosmos can be, and how people can still insist all this stuff is an accident.
