I moved servers again - by Mark | December 19, 2007, 10:30:31 PM
Life has gotten too busy to stay one step ahead of the hackers.  So I have decided to move zerr.org over to a paid webhost for the time being in an attempt to let someone else handle all the various security patches and server configuration issues.  This should be a transparent process to everyone who visits the website or sends email to zerr.org.  However, if you see any "odd" behavior over the next few days...it is most likely temporary and will be fixed up fairly quickly.  WebSite

5 Year Anniversary of Zerr.org - by Mark | November 11, 2007, 11:10:56 AM
December 1, 2007 will mark 5 years of zerr.org on the Internet.  This website started as a simple method to stay connected with my family, then turned into a way for me to broadcast all my political, religious, and scientific thoughts.  Since this site was started, I married a wonderful women who has given birth to two freaking awesome little boys and we have moved from St. Louis, MO to Cedar Rapids, IA.  Life sure moves fast when your having fun!

Thanks to everyone who stops by this site to read my stories and thoughts, catch up on my family's life, and look forward to the future with hope that somehow the world will make sense yet again.

Website upgrade - by Mark | May 15, 2007, 09:10:30 PM
I was finally able to upgrade the website code successfully over to the latest and greatest PHP code.  I have re-activated guest posting, because I think I am one step ahead of the spammers for now.  The upgraded website's code should perform much faster and some new minor feature additions will be noticeable to those that are really paying attention.  However, the biggest benefit to the upgraded code is server speed and stability as well as the improved spammer safeguards.  If the spammers should figure out how to get around the safeguards I have put in place, I will be forced to restrict guest posting again....I hope that is not necessary though, because lots of people would like to post without being required to register on the site. Website Upgrade Attempt #2 - by Mark | March 31, 2007, 01:54:15 PM
I am trying again to update the website's code today.  Hopefully round two will work out better than round 1.  The website may undergo odd behavior until this upgrade is completed.

UPDATE:  The first round of updates went well...now I just need to migrate over the old theme, so everything looks as it did before the upgrade.

UPDATE 2:  Well....I got the old zerr.org theme transferred over except for a little bug on the top main menu.  For some reason I cannot get the menu images to load up properly.  But it is good enough for now.

Server is back up - by Mark | October 29, 2006, 12:28:02 PM
Yesterday, I went about performing some long overdue maintanence on the website.  Need to stay on top of the hackers and what not.  I think the server is rock solid now, and it seems to be performing a bit better now as well.  I upgraded from fedora core 4 to fedora core 6....it was not too easy, which is why the server was down for almost an entire day.

All is well here....Wyatt contiues to grow and cause trouble.  Work is super busy.

Guest posting SPAM. - by Mark | December 13, 2005, 08:56:56 PM
Some moron is spamming my website.  So until further notice, guests will not be able to post messages.  I will probably reactivate guest posting in a few weeks, once the spamming is under control.

UPDATE:  The spamming attempts appear to be getting worse.  As of today, it is doubtful I will allow guest posting in the future.  Soon, I will be upgrading zerr.org's code that runs the site.  The new code is currently in alpha testing.  Once the code is upgraded I am hopeful I can reactivate guest posting.  But until then, if you want to post...I suggest you click the "register" button in the top menu.

zerr.org email addresses - by Mark | December 15, 2003, 09:08:37 PM
If anyone would like an email address ending with zerr.org just let me know.  You can choose any name you like.  I will provide all the details needed to view your email shortly.  You can use your current email program or even view your email in a similar manner to hotmail and other web based free email services.  More new features are already being planned for 2004 so be sure to stay tuned.

Also you should really check out the new family tree, very soon I will have your current login accounts allow you to add and edit the family tree so we can all start keeping track of everyone.  Anyone registered on this site will be able to help update the family tree.

Photo Album user integration - by Mark | July 24, 2003, 09:28:03 PM
Just a quick note...I have completely integrated the photo album into the website so now you only need to log onto the main portion of the website.  You can also add your own albums and upload your own pictures directly to the site for all to see.  I will work on providing a user manual.  For now just play around and check out all the options...let me know if you find any bugs.
